How Heat Affects Our Health According To TCM

Heat, especially if you live in tropical countries, is always a problem. Heat makes the body uncomfortable and, if in excess, it will lead to sickness. Illness resulting from heat is more serious than from cold conditions. It can develop from being in hot places, eating hot, spicy foods, or spending too much time in the sun without proper protection. Symptoms are:

  • Rough

  • Chapped skin or dry lips

  • A dry cough

  • Thirst

  • Dry mouth

  • Desire for cold drinks

  • Constipation

  • Sweating

  • Red skin

  • Irritability

  • Bleeding from the nose and gums

  • Red eyes

These symptoms may also exhibit an 'over heated temper' manifesting as hysteria and possible neurosis, and for people who eat a lot of animal fat or sugar may find that their bodies will try to cope with this heat excess by producing skin eruptions such as acne, pimples and boils. It is usually quite a sudden manifestation, and it is quite commonly experienced during dry, hot summers and cold, dry winters and especially in centrally heated environments.

How To Clear Heat In The Body With Fruits And Vegetables Juices

Swimming is recommended, along with eating lots of yin related food like some fruits and vegetables --- for instance:

  • Pear

  • Apples

  • Cucumber

  • Bitter-gourd

One easy way is to get and good juicer and drink the juices. Juices are easily absorbed by the body and sometimes, after one or two days, you will feel much better with lots of energy. These fruits and vegetable juices will help moisten the body, and some may even clear heat. Avoid foods such as:

  • Nuts

  • Fried foods

  • Chocolate

  • Oranges
