  • Try to spend the day before your water-fast on a raw diet - eating just salads and fruit (preferably organic). Drink plenty of water that day, too. All of this will help to prepare your body for the water-fast itself.

  • During the course of the day in question drink 3 -7 pints/2-4 liters of pure water (bottled spring water is best). Take it at the rate of one glass an hour, either warm or at room temperature.

  • Do as your body tells you. If you feel like being in the fresh air or going for a walk, then do so. If on the other hand, you feel tired, then lie down and sleep.

  • You may find that you experience some side-effects - a coated tongue and headache are the most common - but this is a sign that the body is throwing off toxins and is nothing to worry about.

  • If you do get a headache, try going out in the fresh air for a walk or massaging your temples with a little lavender oil.

  • The next day, have another raw-food diet and, again, drink plenty of water. Rest as much as you can and you will find that any side-effects disappear.
